I got a telephone call last night asking for urgent help with an 11 year old Shetland mare called Brandee that is difficult to catch. Her fieldmate had removed her headcollar again and they desperately needed to catch her to get her feet trimmed. Once caught, she is fine to handle, so there is a genuine fear here. Because she doesn't kick or bite, it was fine to use the techniques I use with the semi-feral foals and it really worked very well. The look in her eye when she discovered it was all going to be gentle was lovely. I'm back again at the end of the month when the farrier is due to come.
