Yesterday was another day of New Forest ponies with Kesali and Copper in the morning working on exercises both for fitness of mind and fitness of body.
Jackie and Kesali concentrating hard on their long reining in their own world in which not even a working baler could intrude.
Working on in hand trotting on a loose rein. Kesali was shown as a youngster but at a recent show had to be chased into a trot (and into a fright) by the judge and her clipboard. Unfortunately we now need to do some desensitising to people with clipboards too!!!
Aftermath of the Clipboard Incident |
Copper's strategy when worried is to surge forward even if that is towards the thing that is worrying him. I just needed to make sure that he didn't run over the top of me and allow him to calmly watch the baler. He seemed reassured by my presence setting him a clear boundary.
Next it was back to Diana's to load Wellow Sardine ready to go to his new home with last week's student, Emily. Apparently it was love at first sight and Sardine is a remarkably calm and friendly pony.
He travelled well loose in the stock trailer...
...and unloaded really calmly...
...before we wandered off to his field where...
...a chaos of Shetland ponies awaited!
First one and then all of the others.
With three colts and two geldings there was a lot of squealing and willy waving but everyone was unbelievably polite and gentle.
They looked up at Sardine as if he was their new king...
...and all wanted to get as close as they could.
