8th May, 2013 Green Grass of Wyoming

"....when spring comes in Wyoming, the children in school ask each other, "Have you got green grass yet?"...It's an event. Newspapers publish it. The whole tempo of life changes..."

When I used to read Green Grass of Wyoming, the third in the My Friend Flicka trilogy, this didn't mean a lot to me but for the first time, this year, it does. My horses are still getting through several bales of hay a day even though they are clearly bored with it and although their summer coats are coming through, they still have that wintry look and all of them are on the slim side. Like them, I am longing for the grass to come through especially as they New Forest girls need to come in this weekend to avoid the stallions.
