15th May, 2014 Lock Up Your Daughters
Things may look as if they are very quiet but things are about to liven up around here. The stallions are due to go out on 19th May, a week later than last year and already the mares out on the Forest are congregating in the hope of being the first date.
Accordingly I have brought Nelly and Blue into the chastity paddock where the only men they will meet will be all talk and no action.
Nettles seems to have formed a liaison with Blue and Jack is happy squiring Nelly. Downton Abbey has nothing on us.
It could be chaos outside as eight out of the ten stallions going out are two year olds and they have not lived out on the Forest before. The idea is that they will renew the rarer bloodlines and ensure the width of bloodlines that are needed to keep the breed strong. However, I shall be fascinated to observe their behaviour - will their initial enthusiasm fade in the face of so many maiden mares or the persistent old timers? And how will the cope with the environment itself and most of all the traffic?
