With icy rain and cold weather, I decided to put Theoden and Dave's rugs on; Theoden has looked a bit stiff over the last few days. Both rugs could have done with been taken out a few inches as both horses are quite round! It will be a little while before I need to feed hay.
Pie looked as if he would benefit from a rug too but he has been very nervous about anything on his back for the whole of his life, never mind fixed into place. A few weeks ago I spent time putting my fleece, a jacket or a blanket over his back in the hope of desensitising him and convincing him of the benefits of a warm rug.
Having made sure that he had looked at it, and touched it on both sides, walked and trotted in it, and heard me rubbing and scratching it, I have left it on him overnight for the first time. I don't suppose it will be this colour ever again!
