11th October, 2012 Safe?

Yesterday morning both Coco and Rose went out separately for their first ride on the Forest, two miles round the block with the owner on board and me on foot. Both were so well behaved; calm and happy.

Later I went off to meet a new customer and her 'safe' cob that she bought from a dealer. It's interesting that anyone can sell a horse as 'safe' since few horses are genuinely safe all the time no matter what happens. Many horses fall back on their default position in times of uncertainty and many have huge chasms in their education which need to be rectified by the new owner. Fortunately for this horse, the owner is all set to do that and wants to start at the very beginning to make sure there are no gaps and no need for the horse to go back to her default behaviour. Since the mare has been known to bolt on the way home, the first bit of advice has had to be no fast work in the direction of home!

I'm lost without my good camera! I'll try to get a picture next time.....
