13th April, 2014 Poni Tales

In his spare time Jordi has two borrowed ponies that he uses to give children riding lessons at the local Pony Club in Pollensa. Unlike most British ponies, Lucho and Clappa, are not grass fed and accordingly they are pretty sprightly. Jordi wanted to know what training and exercise techniques he could use with them.

All the way from the Forest we employed some short reining before moving on to long reining.

Having been around driving horses all his life, Jordi is used to a more traditional form of driving where voice commands and a touch of the whip are employed to send signals to a horse wearing blinkers.

After the preparation exercises, Clappa was introduced to driving using IH techniques, i.e. body language so that he could compare and contrast. Here we're using dual controls in order to set her off on the right track. This little round arena was like a small amphitheatre, the perfect place to work.
